Michael Thames No. 940
2016 Michael Thames No. 940 (USA), 650 mm scale, 51 mm nut, redwood top, Indian rosewood sides and back, original lacquer varnish, Rodgers engraved tuning machines with real black pearl oval buttons. Michael is one of the most prolific American makers working alone. As you can see from the serial number, he has made nearly 1000 guitars in his lifetime and is still going strong. This wonderful recent example is a very Friederich/Bouchet inspired instrument internally. If either of these makers had used redwood for their soundboards, I could imagine they would have been very similar musically to this instrument, which has unusually even response and sustain going up the first string, great cross fingerboard evenness, clarity and a beautiful singing sustain throughout, in our opinion one of the best examples of this maker’s work we’ve had in the showroom. Colorful with easy action it is a real pleasure to hold and play. $5500
