Jose Ramirez III 1968
1968 Jose Ramirez III 1a (Spain) No. 2713, 664 mm scale, 54 mm nut, cedar top, Brazilian rosewood sides and back, original catalyzed urethane varnish. There is a minor repaired hairline top crack close to the center seam behind the bridge, and two minor repaired mirror image hairline cracks by the lower bouts on the back, otherwise, near mint condition. This is the classic legendary Ramirez 1a which the Ramirez family was so famous for. Huge brilliant singing trebles, thunderous deep basses, when you think of the later Segovia “sound,” this is the instrument he achieved it with. The Brazilian rosewood is quarter sawn, the cedar is as fine as it comes, everything about this instrument is first class, and when we think of the modern “Madrid” school, it starts with the Ramirez shop. A great instrument of the classic tradition. $8,000
